A few pointers

What is a virtual office hour?

For monthly paid subscribers, in addition to weekly 1 hr group session on Zoom, I will be hosting Zoom sessions in 30-min blocks where I discuss topics or subtopics in more detail or address questions or even do timed exam drills.

Learning is an ongoing process and it is helpful to include active recall and spaced repetition. That’s why I spread out the 30-min blocks — 3 times a week. I do not charge for this extra 90 minutes a week (6 hr/month).

I will announce the schedules 1 month ahead. Check the newsletter and social media announcement on facebook, instagram & twitter. Subscribers will receive email notifications too.

Why student engagement in real time?

Real-time engagement promotes shared learning experiences within a virtual community. During virtual group sessions, I will have participants take quick quizzes, polls, surveys in real time and the feedback will be instantaneous. The transparency and spontaneity of the interaction will (i) motivate learners in staying engaged, (ii) enable brainstorming and critical thinking on the fly, and (iii) ensure learners truly appreciate the value of a kind, compassionate community committed to a common goal of academic success.

What technology platforms will I use?

Zoom, Mentimeter.

What technology platforms will the student subscribers need?

Good internet connection, Zoom, cell/mobile phone, iPad/tablet, laptop or desktop. Just your cell phone and a decent internet connection will do.

  • Subscriber can cancel paid subscription anytime. Because it is a monthly subscription, subscriber will be charged for that ongoing month when cancellation is requested (unless the subscriber gives, via email, an advance notice of cancellation a month ahead). After that month, the subscriber will no longer be charged. In other words, always notify a month ahead and you will not be charged from the next month.

  • PhDScienceTutor shall at no time be required or obliged to execute homework or assignments on behalf of the student/subscriber.

  • In exceptional circumstances, a session may have to be canceled and rescheduled, in which case I will give as much notice to the student subscribers as possible.

  • The subscriber is solely responsible for, and agrees to exercise caution, discretion, common sense and judgment in using the technology platforms (e.g., Zoom, Mentimeter, etc.). PhDScienceTutor reserves the right to deactivate any subscriber for violation of confidentiality, usage of foul language, abuse, disruption, threats, disrespect, and indecency. Please be compassionate online.
